The Set List takes no holidays

Since the magazine world rarely observes post-office holidays like MLK or Presidents Day, or school-district holidays like Good Friday, this is our first (official) long weekend since
the beginning of the year. We'll take it. Since it's Memorial Day, and everyone and their brother is traveling or staying home so as to avoid traveling, it's a slow weekend, activity wise; but we'll do our best to help you through it, anyway.

Peace out.

Friday

Babe Xtreme Model Search, Cartoons, Cover TBA, 9 p.m.
Cartoons second-annual model search is looking for amateurs to compete. The finals are Friday, June 6, and tonight's winner will be invited to compete. The winner gets a ton of stuff, including a modeling contract, a trip to the Caribbean, and more. Be there.

Singapore, Falcon Punch @ Randy Bacon Studio & Gallery, $3, 8 p.m.
Indie and local are the words tonight at Gallery Sounds, as Nixa-based Singapore plays its final show and the super-original Falcon Punch also takes the stage. At $3 it's the best value of the weekend.

STAND dinner @ Missouri State's Plaster Student Union, $35 per person, $60 per couple, 7 p.m.

STAND, a student anti-genocide group at Missouri State, is throwing this dinner to raise  money for its mission—helping those affected by the genocide in Darfur—as well as the Watoto Children's Choir (a group of singing kids from Africa, which will perform at the dinner). If you haven't heard Watoto, the price of admission is worth it.

Saturday

Springfield WolfPack football, Jordan Valley Ice Park, Tickets TBA, 7:05 p.m.
Springfield's indoor football team is improved from a year ago (they're 2-2) and they take on the Missouri Minutemen today at 7:05 at the Ice Park.

Noah—The Musical @ Sight & Sound Theatre, Tickets TBA, 7 p.m.
We're not so sure there are any tickets remaining for this high-profile Branson opening, but we're going to tell you about it anyway. It's about that Noah guy, and we suspect the music is a little more sophisticated than "The Lord saaaaid, to Noaaaah, You're gonna buiiiiild an arky-arky..."

Big Smith @ Branson Landing, Free, 8 p.m.
A free show from Big Smith, complete with a river/fire backdrop and plenty of patios for relaxin'. Down home, indeed.

Sunday

Art Bentley @ Brew Co., Free, 9 p.m.
Shawn and Marcus, Free, 10 p.m.
These are two weekly shows that, frankly, we feel bad recommending. To truly enjoy them you need to stay out late on a Sunday night, and that never bodes well on Monday morning. But Monday is Memorial Day! Stay out! Drink beer! Have fun! We said it was okay.

'Till next week.
