Well, one of us does. Heather Blue, an advertising designer for 417 Magazine, has been bugging us to let her write about growing up with American Idol contestant David Cook ever since he made the show's finals back in February. For one reason or another, we kept putting her off. Then the dude won, the first time since Carrie Underwood weighed more than 100 pounds that the most talented contestant has actually been victorious. And we realized, hey--it's pretty bad ass that she is actually friends with this guy.
So Heather gets her moment to shine (complete with photos of a teenage David at her birthday party) after the jump

I’ve never been able to justify sitting and watching tv every night. Especially the same show two nights in a row... and a reality show even less. At 24 years old, I have plenty of other things to occupy my time and keep me busy after a long day at work, where I sit in front of a computer.
However, these last few months I have been in front of the TV every Tuesday and Wednesday for a good cause. Because one evening, three months ago, a friend of mine from high school called in a panic. She said “Didn’t you know a guy in high school named David Cook?” Well, yes! David and I were really good friends. He was my buddy and dated some of my friends. He came to my birthday parties and hung out at my house and I think I even attended some of his baseball games, and maybe even a play or two. But my favorite thing to do when it came to hanging out with David Cook was sitting front row at an Axium concert (David's old band), rockin’ out like his biggest groupie! Back then, David (front man/ guitar) and Bobby Kerr (drummer) were like my big brothers.
Fast forward to today.... Eleven weeks of Idol have gone by, including some some of the most amazing performances I’ve ever seen. And all those rehearsals were only preparing David for the best gig of his life. Tuesday, on American Idol, it came down to the battle of the Davids. Most everyone gave the show to “Archie” (David Archuleta) after a three song performance by each performer. I was stuck. No one can rationalize how “talent” should beat “teenie bopper.” I voted all 30 times that I could get through. Then the decision came: And the winner is... “Lord, please give it to David if that’s what’s to be.”... DAVID....”Please”....COOK!! I honestly believe that he was as surprised as I was. But really... how can you perform with ZZ Top and not be considered an idol?
Congrats David! P.S. Sorry about the pictures. :)
