Blog roundup to follow here in a bit:
• The St. Louis Cardinals came, they saw, they froze their tail feathers off. Two frigid games at Hammons Field ended with the Springfield club winning on Saturday, their first in four exhibition tries against St. Louis. Friday night fans were treated to an Albert Pujols home run, which was nice. The stadium looked great, the games (and new emcee J. Fotsch) were hilarious. All was well but the weather. Looks like another great season at Hammons Field.
A few highlights:
—Our pitching staff will be impressive: P.J. Walters, particularly, looked good on Saturday.
—Centerfielder Jon Jay is buff. Men, if you know what's good for you, you won't let your ladies sit in the centerfield grass area. Too close to Jon.
—The stadium operations and features are have been fine-tuned and, to the layperson, ran very well on Friday. Look for the best gameday experience yet in 2008.
• A happy voicemail this morning confirmed that the Trash Angels will replace The Dropouts as our fifth participant in the GO Music Awards. Lead singer Tiffany Samples (one of our Women Who Rock last December), was almost giddy when we told her, and will provide a much-needed dose of estrogen to the proceedings. So, to refresh:
GO Music Awards at Rock'n Ribs. April 19, 2008:

1:30—Trash Angels
2:30—McGill
4:00—Sweetwater Abilene

• Finally, we'd be remiss if we didn't comment on the epic Brian Regan show at the Gillioz Theatre last night. Holy cow! He packed the joint and performed for well over an hour. Regan's opener was just as funny as Regan. If we can continue to pack the joint and impress the comedians, Springfield will continue to see great comedy shows. Big props go to the Gillioz, FM Productions and anyone else responsible for getting Regan to come to town.
