We usually post our weekly events and marketing update on Wednesday morning, but we've got a couple of music-scene updates for you: Not that we want to make either of them. Look for our weekend GO Team shindigs this afternoon.
First of all, there's been a lineup change for the GO Music Awards. The Dropouts, true to their name, dropped out of the Music Awards yesterday because the band's drummer will be on tour with the Osmonds (he'll be the one without orange skin and shiny teeth). So, we're headed back to our vote tally list, and will announce the replacement as soon as we can get the band confirmed.
Second, and even more depressingly, Steve Greene, the subject of so much joy on this blog and the owner of the Snorty Horse Saloon, announced yesterday (in his newsletter, where else?) that he's selling his northside bar and music venue. On eBay. In fact, it's there already—$20,000 starting price, no bidders yet. Steve's taking a job out of state... we're taking it as a case of wanderlust, which most music-industry types are prone to from time to time.
[UPDATE: The DeRosh had this up before we did, with some nice fan-side commentary to go along with.]
Here's the nut graph:
"Most of you had heard me say that I'm not going to be in the bar business forever. Guess it's time for me to start the next chapter. To make a long story short, I got a job offer that I just got to take and I'm not going to try and work in another state and keep the bar open. For many of you this will be rather shocking but I know most of you that have hung around me lately won't be surprised. I have no regrets and at the same time I don't feel like I need to explain myself. I'm just ready for something different."
We'll miss Steve, but he did say in a later graph that he would continue writing his newsletter for his fans and the readers of GO Magazine. We're not sure how local they will be, but we're sure they'll still be funny.
