Angry Panda, Ha Ha Tonka make waves

A bit of local musical gossip from outside Springfield:

First, Angry Panda (aka Tim Miano) will play a set on The Warped Tour on August 8... in Boise, Idaho.

From A.P. himself:

"GO Magazine's solo artist of the year finalist Angry Panda is taking his Springfield, MO inspired folk punk sound to Boise ID for a set at Warped Tour on August 8.  The performance will be on the Kia Kevin Says Stage representing global A&R website SonicBids.com.  While there he will be promoting the re-release of his 2006 album, "Hey, Mr. Meano!", which can be found in the local section at most of Springfield's record stores.  After the two-day drive home Angry Panda will be performing at Springfield Brewing Co. on  Saturday, August 16 from 10pm to 1am."

Check out the Panda's MySpace page for more.

Then, from the East Coast, comes buzz from indie-music blog Buzzgrinder following a Someone Still Loves Yo Boris Yeltsin show in New York (or at least that's what we think—the blog isn't incredibly clear about where it's based). But the big buzz in the post wasn't about SSLYBY, but Ha Ha Tonka, the local rock group traveling with SSLYBY.

The money shot: "These guys had some of the sweetest southern harmonies I’ve heard in a while, with some awesome riffs to boot. Frontman Brian Roberts said he likes to think of the band as somewhere between bluegrass (vocally, I’m assuming) and indie rock, adding that Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver was just as much an influence on him growing up as REM. It shows, too."

Here's the link. Hat tip to unofficial GO correspondent Evan Fisk for info.
