Correa, Brush not renewed at KOLR/KSFX

On the heels of the news that Angie Weidinger is taking a job with a cable station in St. Louis comes word that Marybeth Brush and Carlos Correa, two longtime KOLR/KSFX reporters and anchors, will be done at the station effective April 1.

In what we say is tantamount to a layoff, the station notified the pair of the decision to not renew their contracts (which are up January 30), last Friday, though they are being given until April 1 to find new jobs.

Brush, of course, was a GO Top Single honoree last fall. Correa, a reporter and anchor of the Saturday-night Infoque Latino Spanish-language news segment, was a 20 Under 30 honoree in 2007. He tells us Infoque Latino will most likely be cancelled, which would be a step backward for Springfield in and of itself.

On a personal note, Carlos and Marybeth are two of favorites. We really hope they can find work in Springfield...

When I heard they were not going to be on KOLR as of April I was so ANGRY!! What kind of news director doesn't renew contracts of the stations best on air talent? I will now and forever change over to other channels leaving KOLR in the dark! I think the news director should be fired! SHe does not know how to run a news station nor does she now how to treat her employees. Years of these two amazing reporters making a difference in Springfield will now be a thing of the past... and so will the station!

First of all Brush anchors the 11 a.m. newscast. So the fact that someone will not watch their noon show will really not make a difference b/c there is no noon show. And secondly, Correa's segment is called "Enfoque Latino", not Infoque Latino. If people want to blog and comment on issues they should really take the time to get their facts straight.

They are not "victims of attrition." You can't call it a lay-off if they're being replaced.
