GO Staff Sendoffs: Matt Lemmon
GO Staff Sendoffs: Matt Lemmon

My thoughts on the ending of GO have been published. They've been on the radio. They've been drunkenly slurred into cans of PBR in the dark watches of the night (okay, that was only once). I'm not going to navel-gaze any more. But I am going to thank some people who deserve thanks for making this almost-five-year journey something special.

•  To GO’s art directors, Kari Engel (2005-2008) and Megan Johnson (2008-now), who doubled as de facto assistant editors and made this magazine sparkle. I wasn’t always the easiest guy to work with, but I appreciate you making it look easy.

• To the business side of our magazine, beginning with publishers Gary and Joan Whitaker, for first believing in me and my vision for GO. Associate publisher Logan Aguirre came on board in 2006 and made us an events powerhouse and a reliable ad partner. Without her business attentions we wouldn’t have made it as long as we did. And to the sales reps on the street (most recently Luke Rich): thanks for taking all those arrows-of-pissed-off-ness that were actually meant for me.

• To the full-time editorial types no longer with the mag: Chris DeRosier, Evan Fisk, and Greg Holman. They put their significant stamps on the heady, frantic first days of the magazine, which are the ones I’ll remember longest and fondest. A blanket thank-you, as well, to the army of freelancers who made sure this publication had a voice other than mine. And thank God for that.

• To my wife, Nichole, for being at the parties and always picking up a mag whenever we saw one out and making a big deal out of it to our friends and anyone within earshot. But especially for being there when I would crash at home after the rare bad day and—I'll admit it now—being the genesis, or at least the inspiration, of at least 50 percent of my good material. I don't know what I'd do without you, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

• To all the good people out there who helped fill this page with interesting goings on. A few of you have become treasured friends; most of you are amazing people; some of you are bat-s**t crazy; all of you are interesting. An editor couldn’t ask for anything more.

Thanks for the ride.
