Hump day odds 'n ends

Remember last March, when we somewhat breathlessly told you about the truck we followed down Sunshine Street that had a pair of stainless steel cow testicles hanging from its bumper? No? Click here to refresh yourself.

Done? Good.

Well, GO's west coast correspondant and former resident troublemaker Evan Fisk sent an important update on the trend of metallic gonads on automobiles. Apparently some in the state of Florida are Read more »

Cuatro ways to catch the GO Team

It's a busy weekend for the GO Team:

Thursday night we’ll be at the preview performance of Tick, Tick… Boom! at Landers Theatre. Jonathan Larson, who wrote RENT, also wrote this show. Since RENT is one of our faves, we don’t see how we can miss this one. Tick, Tick…Boom! runs for the next two weekends at Landers, with shows at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday.

Disturbed (Editor: Which, incidentally, was the very first Calendar Spotlight we ever wrote, way back in our inaugural issue in August... Read more »

The Moxie gets all economical up in here

For your Tuesday morning money-saving special, we call your attention to Moxie Cinema. We've long loved the Moxie becasue it's everything most theaters are not: Quirky lines, artsy folks, quality films over blockbusters, etc. The only thing that was similar to multiplexes was the ticket pricing. At 70-some-odd seats it's an economic necessity, to be sure, and well worth it, but it still makes a $2.50 special at the Palace seem pretty good if all you want to do is sit in the dark for two hours.

But with the economy in the tank (at least according to Glenn Beck), the Moxie is weekly $2.50 shows. From Dan Chilton in the Moxie's newsletter:

Now, about our special "we're not in... Read more »

Rob Evans, John Daly: Two golf bags, one shirt

Friend of the magazine Rob Evans landed the gig of the year recently: A round of golf with John Daly at the legendary golfer's Murder Rock golf course in Branson. It was part of a substantial package on KSFX, the local Fox affiliate. Daly built the course near Branson, and has been a regular in the Ozarks of late. Daly is one of the most popular golfers in history, known as much for his hard-partying ways and high-profile love life as for his golfing prowess (and that's saying something—he's won two majors).

Daly didn't disappoint. Well, if you like avoiding farmer's tans.

Your Monday blog roundup

What to read while wiping off your shoes from ArfFest...

• Ron Davis blogs what we all think privately in our heads. And that is why we read. Chatter

• Sounding off on cover bands, on moral grounds. The Four/Four

• Kinda puts our "spike" in the price of Uncle Ben's into perspective, doesn't it? Blue Girl, Red State

The Set List needs a drink, yo

What a week! It all started with deadline and, before we knew it, Friday came around quicker than we could say "rice shortage." Our office is sending off a co-worker this afternoon, so we're going to get this up a little bit early. Naturally, we've got one thing on our mind: Friday drinky-poos (though our therapists would probably tell us that's not at all a healthy sentiment).

Anywho, after the jump you'll find the weekend's best stuff to do, plus a drink—some with alcohol, some without—to consume while you're doing it (not that you could logistically pull them all off, but we digress).

SSLYBY on Carson Daly next month

Yeah, we know it's the red-headed stepchild of late night (well, perhaps the BIG red-headed stepchild, next to Craig Ferguson), but Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin will sing two songs from their new album on Last Call with Carson Daly on May 15.

The taping is May 12, so if you happen to be in the Los Angeles area (we're looking at you, Evan Fisk), make plans to attend and then stick around to support the guys at their show at The Echo on May 13.

The GO Team: Too pooped to pop

The GO Team is still tending to our sunburns (and hangovers) from the weekend. We hit up seven awesome events in three days. We took lots of pictures, so click here to see if we found you out and about (chances are we did).

We’re taking a break until the sneak preview opening of Tick, Tick…Boom next Thursday night, May 1, at Landers Theatre. You can join us for the sneak peak by entering to win here. Now, back to napping…
