Hypes and Gripes

Look at all these Hypes. Aren’t we just little bubbles of positivity?

Hypes to So You Boutique for carrying—in stock—fashionable shirts suitable for big boys. They have sizes ranging up to XXL and XXXL—Express, once the men’s fashion epicenter of the mall, no longer does. We’re starting to think there’s a logical reason that Samoan dude on Comedy Central always wears Hawaiian shirts… he simply can’t find anything else.

Hypes to Sporadic Sophisticates regular, occasional contributing writer and full-time Whitaker Publishing phone-answerer and sticky-note buyer Nicole Fuller and husband Joe for the little bundle of joy she’s planning to deliver next April. At the very least, this will give the Sophisticates a never-ending well of topics for their regular Thursday knitting circle/blog post.

Hypes to Missouri State University’s office of communications, which is going to an “all e-mail” system of sending out its approximately 12 bajillion press releases and calendar alerts. It not only helps the environment, but it will keep our desks significantly less cluttered, meaning we’re more likely to actually publicize those events rather than ritualistically dump them into a recycling bin once a month.

Hypes to the Blues Society of the Ozarks for making the best of a crappy situation in moving BluesFest to the Shrine Mosque earlier this month. The only thing we’d change (besides the rain): Bring back the “Memphis Bound” contest winner as the Friday opener. We know scheduling logistics prevented it this year, but it’s a nice tradition.

Hypes to KY3, Inc., specifically the revamped KSPR 33, for giving our company another showcase with two regular segments: marketing director Logan Aguirre’s Thursday night “411 with 417” spots, and an as-yet-unnamed biweekly chat with editor Matt Lemmon, every other Thursday at 6:45 a.m. Look for him next on September 27 and October 11.

Hypes to The French Quarter Café, new at 320 Park Central East down town. This place has china dishware, but is far from pretentious with appetizers involving alligator ($4.79)! The food appeared to be made from scratch and was incredibly fresh (Mardi Gras Shrimp Salad and Bayou Gumbo both only $5.79.) Not only with the ingredients but the Louisiana-style menu, different for the Springfield area.. The food was great and so was the service. Try it, get out of your normal lunch or dinner scene.
