Two-Minute Review: Rosati's
You might have noticed the new Italian joint on the east-facing side of the Fremont Center, just around the corner from Heritage Cafeteria. You might also have noticed that it has only two tables. Rosati’s is a take-out joint (3049 S. Fremont Ave., 417-877-2008) which is both its biggest asset and biggest curse.
The Place: Walking into Rosati’s actually feels like ordering at a bigger-city pizzeria. There are two registers, minimal decorations, and a cooler where you grab your own canned or bottled drinks. The staff was friendly and the service quick—especially for pizza-by-the-slice, available 11 to 2.
The Menu: I literally spent 10 minutes looking at Rosati’s menu. For a take-out place, the options are ridiculously deep, including burgers, Chicago-style hot dogs, pastas, seafood, ribs and pizzas. Prices are competitive, lower than most.
The Food: We’ve eaten Rosati’s twice: On a dine-in visit, neither my brother-in-law, Matt Campbell, (a $5.95 Philly cheese steak with too many onions) or I (a reheated slice of pepperoni pizza, $2.75) completely loved what we ordered. Matt said his sandwich needed less meat and peppers. I would have loved to taste a slice of Rosati’s pizza that hadn’t been sitting under a heating lamp. Fortunately, about a week later, I got my chance to eat a delivered Rosati’s pizza at the office, and I must say it was some of the best I’ve ever had, with the freshest sauce you’ll taste on a delivered pizza.
The Verdict: Rosati’s is fast, affordable and offers everything under the sun; a great addition to the lunch scene. If you go with a carry-out pie rather than by-the-slice, we think you’ll agree.
