Sunshine Run 2008

Long one of Springfield’s most popular fun runs, this year the St. John’s Sunshine Run (which is no longer on Sunshine, but whatever) will be a full-blown see-and-be-seen event, as well. Bruce Jenner, the U.S.’s 1976 decathlon gold medalist, will speak at 6 p.m. October 10 on “Finding the Champion Within.” The appearance follows a 5:30 p.m. pasta dinner featuring food from Gilardi’s. Saturday, October 11, is race day, with the 5K, 1-mile walk and 10K going off at 7:30, 8:00 and 8:30 a.m., respectively. Online registration is due by midnight October 8. Tickets for the pasta dinner can be purchased for $12 apiece ($30-$50 for full families) at local O’Reilly’s stores or at stjohns.com/sunshinerun2008. All events are at Hammons Field.
