The 5 Stop: June 24-July 14

The 5 Stop: June 24-July 14

Meshuggah-Nuns!

June 25-28, Landers Theatre
The final show of SLT’s 2009 season is a Jesuit romp featuring the rowdiest group of nuns this side of a Whoopi Goldberg comedy. This musical is actually the fifth installment of the Nunsense! series, so if you know that musical, you’re in the loop, sister. 7:30 p.m., Thursday-Saturday; 2:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday; $15-$25

Tent Theatre

June 29–July 15, Missouri State University
The Tent Theatre season seems to go so fast, doesn’t it? The second and third shows of the season kick off during this GO issue cycle. Catch The Miss Firecracker Contest June 29-July 3 and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat July 8-19. Tickets $12-$22, showtimes at 8:15 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday.

4th of July Fireworks

July 3-5, all over
With the city budget calamity claiming Firefall, the largest 4th of July festival in or around Springfield is the decidedly non-secular I Love America Celebration, thrown by James River Assembly. This year’s event is Friday, July 3, at the Springfield Underground (near Division and 65). It lasts from 11 a.m. until midnight or later, and features fireworks, games, skydivers and live music, including national sensation Push Play. If you like a brew with your boom boom, the Table Rock area has fireworks shows July 3-5, including a display at Branson Landing July 3.

Drop Dead, Gorgeous w/ He Is Legend, Before Their Eyes, Then There Were None

July 3, The Outland Ballroom
The show of the fortnight could very well be this indie mashup, headlined by the long-haired hard-rockers Drop Dead, Gorgeous (we love the well-placed comma!). Co-opener He Is Legend is worth being excited about. Cover TBA, Doors at 6 p.m.

Anna Kournikova

July 10, Cooper Tennis Stadium
The most-photographed tennis player in the world will play a home match with the Springfield Lasers July 10 against the St. Louis Aces. This is your chance to see Anna play, and the best way to guarantee a seat is to buy season tickets. Single tickets $20-$40, season tickets $65-$135, 7:30 p.m.
