2-Minute Review: Roadhouse Saloon
The Roadhouse Saloon (1218 E. Trafficway St., 417-350-8947) has seen an update (and clean-up) from previous ownership. The walls and bar have been lined with corrugated and diamond-plate metal, revealing biker bar roots.
On a recent lunch visit the waitress offered Tuesday’s blue plate special—two chili dogs and fries for $5.95. My co-worker Dylan didn’t need to see a menu to know that was a good deal. I took a longer look at the two-page menu; half appetizers, half a variety of burgers and hot dogs. My other companion, Kevin, selected the double cheeseburger and I ordered the bacon cheeseburger.
According to Dylan the chili dogs (at right) were excellent, and Kevin really enjoyed his burger and fries. My burger was a little crispier than I like it, though that happens; I’m a medium-rare kind of guy. The bacon was delicious and the onions, pickles, lettuce and tomatoes were fresh.
All of our meals were between $6-$10 and included fries and a drink. The service was fast. The special changes daily, and is a generous portion of food for the best price. The full menu is served until 6 p.m.; after that its appetizers only. So if you’re headed to Hammons Field and need an early pregame bite, check out The Roadhouse Saloon.
