Outside Stuff: USB Gloves
Evan Fisk
If eyes are the windows to the soul, then your hands are the hearth of your inner fireplace. For you cubicle dwellers, keeping your fingers warm is one of the best ways to fight the office thermostat wars. Enter the USB gloves ($22.99, perpetualkid.com). The gloves—actually convertible mittens—not only warm your hands while keeping your fingertips free for typing, they have heating pads sewn into the back of the hands and fingers. Plug the attached USB wires into your computer and you’ve got hot hands in seconds. The gloves have two heat settings, but sensitive hands might find the higher to be uncomfortably warm. The cords can’t be removed, but they can be tucked into the mitten pocket when not in use. And don’t expect long-lasting heat once you unplug and head out the door. The gloves cool down just as quickly as they heat up, so they don’t do any good outdoors. But if keeping warm at your desk is your main concern, USB gloves offer a gimmicky, high-tech solution.
