Ask Mr. Foodie (01-31-07)

This is the sex issue. What’s the deal with aphrodisiacs? What are some foods that might enhance my already considerable horniness?

Aphrodisiacs run the gamut from mandrake flowers to tiger penis. These two are easily found in SGF:
  • Oysters. Supposedly the zinc increases the libido. I like to eat oysters at celebrations but have never developed an erection afterward. Experiment with this one nonscientifically by visiting Cartoons Oyster Bar & Grill and ordering a dozen. But don’t be looking at all the boys’ packages to see if there is any evidence of the effect.
  • Roquefort is a blue cheese from France. It’s squishy and spreads well. Casanova, Italy’s signature 18th-century man-slut, said roquefort was “an excellent meal for restoring love and for bringing budding love rapidly to maturity.” Hot. Société brand roquefort is sold in pretty much every good grocery store nowadays, in little green packages in the deli cold case.
