The Western Paradise tour news
Jessel Harry, who received considerable airplay from the likes of NPR and XM Radio's Unsigned channel, is tentatively scheduled to release two new albums by the end of April with his songwriting vehicle The Western Paradise. Harry says the two discs, currently titled Death Poems for the Living Gods of America and Terrible Human Passion, could still be combined into one double album if his budget allows. Harry also says a tour of the Midwest and the East Coast is in the works to follow the album releases.
Gallery Sounds opens new season
The Randy Bacon Photography Studio and Gallery, now in the Monarch Art Factory on West College Street, begins a new season of its Gallery Sounds concerts with solo electronic art-rocker Dosh on January 25. The show's opening acts will be Jeremy Larson and The Social, which returns with a new drummer for its first show in nine months.
mewithoutYou to play Springfield
Just three dates into their next U.S. tour, Christian rockers mewithoutYou will come to Springfield to play at Remmington's Downtown with Sparta and Aloha on Saturday, February 24. Interesting twist: Sparta (made up of members of one-time hardcore "it" group At The Drive-In) is the headlining act, but mewithoutYou is also scheduled to play a full-length set. Tickets are $12 in advance or $14 the day of the show. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
Soccer and music: Move over Beckhams!
In what could be a first for the local rock scene, atmospheric metal rockers The Horizon Is After Us will have its name screen-printed onto the jerseys of a local indoor soccer team. Bassist Jason Ball has past experience in screen printing. When he was approached by members of Misfits, a team that plays at Lake Country Soccer, for team T-shirts, they agreed with Ball to turn the jerseys into a band promotion tool. As a result of the sponsorship, the team's name is also The Horizon Is After Us. If you want to see this fusion of rock and sports in action, the team begins playing games at Lake Country the week of January 21.
