Dining Notes
Here’s a short rundown of some dining scene goings-on in Springfield:
• Boomers is open, and the place—formerly Coesters—looks like a million bucks. There are a few changes; more elevated booth seating for one, a mirror over the open spot where you used to be able to see through to the kitchen for another. Flip Night (Wednesday) is what owner Brad Hitchings hopes will be a signature night for Boomers; we’ll see if the students flock once classes start up.
• The Wing Shack, while not quite open at press time, is taking shape in the old Garbo’s spot on National Avenue just north of Walnut. The owners have painted the place in loud colors, and the wing menu seems deep. We’ll give you a heads up at springfieldgo.com when it opens.
• Finally, we’re intrigued by the exceptionally weirdly named Purple Burrito Express on South Campbell Avenue, open since earlier this summer. One advance scout we talked to says it’s in the style of Chipotle, but better. It’s also family owned and not corporate, which is always a plus in our book.
