Why 56? In the immortal words of John Belushi in Animal House, “(BURP) Why not?!” It’s as good a number as any to quantify our love—small enough to keep your interest but hefty enough to include all (or nearly all) of the crushes we’ve developed in the past 12 months. It’s packaged as the mother of all Hot Lists.

We think you’ll agree that these 56 people, places, facts and things represent the best of what has been a tumultuous—but ultimately rewarding—year in Springfield. And, as we’re known for doing, we’ll be throwing a party on Friday, September 11 at one of our Hot List locations to celebrate (read below).

So, without further ado, your 2009 Hot List.
