2-Minute Review
Lunch is Ma-good at Quincy Magoo's.
Last Friday, web producer Bret Forester and I knew we were going to a sports bar for lunch to watch the opening round of the NCAA tournament, We chose Quincy Magoo’s (900 E. Battlefield Rd., 417-888-2066).
The first thing I noticed when we walked in was how much cozier Magoo’s feels than the old Clary’s, and how much work they did to it. Gone is the massive, 360-degree bar and curved walls. In their place are brick pillars, natural wood beams, and plenty of seats with TVs visible from each. In other words, an according-to-Hoyle sports bar.
We both ordered off the lunch menu, which is amazingly cheap. My turkey melt was just $5.99 with fries substituted for chips. The melt was excellent, with fresh ingredients and served on actual toast, not just warmed bread. The fries were seasoned and plentiful.
I wondered how Bret liked his food. “I love their mashed potatoes,” he said as he shoveled chicken fried steak and potatoes ($5.99 for a big lunch portion) into his mouth. And we knew we couldn’t review a sports bar without trying the beer. We’re happy to report that both the Miller Lite and the Bud Light are ice cold.
In a town brimming with sports bars, Magoo’s has an advantage because of a solid menu with great price points, plus a killer location.
